A little article to read:

http://everylastdetailblog.com/wedding-planning/i-took-the-cheap-photographer-route/

This is an article from someone who hired a cheap photographer. I know in this economy it is so easy to hire a friend with a good camera. The thing is that that person may not be ready for the responsibility, and they may not know how to work their camera very well. I have had two calls this year already from brides in a panic.

The first was getting married in a month, and had hired a friend. She signed no contract, and her friend called her saying that she was backing out. Even worse, she didn't have the money to give back the deposit. So now this bride had a month to find a photographer, and to come up with extra money.

The other phone call I received was from a Mother of the Groom whom I have photographed for before. The couple had hired a friend to photograph the wedding, but he got a serious leg injury and won't be able to walk. She called me on a Monday for a wedding that weekend. Unfortunately I couldn't help. But I followed up and she did figure something out.

The thing is that when you hire a professional photographer, such as myself, we often guarantee that someone will be there in our place if anything should happen. As a photographer, I have many friends who are photographers. If anything should happen to me, I know I can find someone who will step in. I would do the same for them. Also, we don't just randomly back out. We do this as a profession, and we wouldn't want to spoil our name.

Anyway, I stumbled upon this link on a friends blog, and I had to share as I feel that it is true.
